Why Calibrate!?

When you buy your TV at a retail store, the TV is optimized for a very bright room to be able to compete with the other sets. You probably wouldn't buy a set that didn't look as bright as the one next to it! But, when you get home, the setup is totally different.

Ask yourself...

What type of programming will I be watching? When do I watch TV? Where will my HDTV be setup!? These are very important questions that you fail to ask yourself when purchasing an HDTV. Budget? Not as important, why? Becuase you will most likely have this TV set for a long time, so might as well spend a little more to accomodate your wants and needs.

It is the best idea to have your HDTV setup in a room where you can control the lighting. Why is lighting important? No matter what kind of technology you have, Plasma, LCD, CRT, Projector, your Display WILL absorb the light and your viewing perception will change dramatically. Colors will seem less saturated, whites and blacks will not be as sharp and detail will not be as clear.

Now that we have answered some of these questions, lets move on to "WHY SHOULD I CALIBRATE MY HDTV!?

1. I will make sure your "Dynamic Range" is properly adjusted. You will see fully detailed dark grays and vivid blacks; bright picture highlights with no out of focus blooming. What does this mean to you? You will be able to see more detail in the darker scenes of a scary movie and you will be able to see details such as white buttons on a white shirt.

2. Color Accuracy. I will make sure all your colors are properly setup on your display, primaries and secondaries. What this means to you? Colors will be accurate, your reds will be red, and blues will be blue. You will be able to compare the Visa logo on your credit card to the Ads you see on the basketball games you watch! The players will now wear the rigth color jerseys!

3. Color Saturation. Once your colors are correct, I will make sure they are deep and rich. What this means to you? No more sunburned actors on your screen!

4. Detail and resolution. I will make sure to adjust your sharpness to the tee so you can see clean and sharp details. What this means to you?! You will see all the detail your HDTV is capable of producing. We also need to make sure your tv is setup to the right resolution so you don't see images such as billiard balls in an oval shape instead of round.

Aside from these important reasons, your HDTV will produce less heat prolonging the life of your set, bulb, and saving you anywhere from 40% to 85% in electricity consumption.
